Chipped anchor windlass and killed and plucked the fowl during our watch. Leary’s sideburns look more like baggywrinkles every day. (Chaffing gear on the chin, too.) Engine repaired as well as possible, so tonight we have one light allowed in the main cabin for reading.
Picked up good breeze last night and it has continued all day. A steady six knots and I hope it keeps up for a while. I wonder if Mother is in Cape Town yet.
Gave Exy copies of my Tahiti article and Cy Peterman’s article about Galapagos for the Yankee scrapbook. Tonight everyone off watch is in the main cabin reading or writing – they are attracted to the light like moths. Had a good nasi-goreng for lunch.
Helped Doc operate on Gil’s eye.
