Ducked into Hoop Iron Bay, Moresby Island, just after breakfast to await change in wind. Breeze hauled around to SW around 1, and set sail just after lunch. Made thirty miles in three and a half hours, wind died and we are now motoring in a drizzle. At last we can see New Guinea – little hills as close together as felt hats at a football game and densely-forested. No wonder the patrols take days to go a few miles.
Sent message to Mother tonight and told her I would cable my answer from Port Moresby.
