Am twenty-one today. Oakes gave me the message which said that Mother is meeting me in Singapore where she arrives on October 2 on board the City of Newport News. My odds are still 10-1 against meeting her there.
Stayed aboard most of morning, missing mountain trip and Sander’s lunch. Kirb, Jop, and I had pancakes and then I fell asleep. Oakes dragged me ashore because wind was too much for one oarsman. He fixed the club’s radio and then he and I went to the other club and met Gil, Clint, and Nora and the French-speaking Portuguese goon. Warren and Charley also showed up. The Yankee moved over to dock and took on water for five hours (4-9.) We then scrammed.
Loring gave me a hand-made pipe from the hills for my birthday.
