At three this morning a northwester came in. The seas were heavier than before and the rain was worse. We were under shortened sail with only the fore staysail and fore staysail set. The watches were only four hours of hell today. At three PM the barometer hit 29.32 – its lowest. We hove to from six ‘til ten tonight and the storm trysail was put on the mainmast at 11:30. There was no regular dinner. The sea was coming from every direction and we heard that we had run through three out of four cyclonic disturbances. The only thing the watch could do was hold on as the Skipper and Bob had the wheel all the time. Sea sickness still is bad. No regular dinner tonight.
